Cells: The Building Blocks

The human body is made of around 37 trillion cells. Each cell is a tiny factory, taking in nutrients, producing energy, making proteins, and communicating with other cells. Cells specialise into over 200 different types — muscle cells, nerve cells, skin cells, and more.

Key Organ Systems

Cardiovascular System

The heart pumps blood through approximately 60,000 miles of blood vessels. This system delivers oxygen, nutrients and removes waste. A plant-rich diet supports arterial health and reduces the risk of atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries).

Digestive System

From mouth to colon, the digestive system breaks down food into absorbable nutrients. The gut microbiome — trillions of bacteria — plays an increasingly recognised role in everything from immunity to mental health.

Immune System

Your body’s defence network. Around 70% of your immune system is located in your gut, which is why diet has such a profound effect on immunity. Plant nutrients like vitamin C, zinc, and antioxidants support immune function.

Endocrine System

Hormones regulate everything from metabolism to mood. Insulin, produced by the pancreas, regulates blood sugar. A whole food plant-based diet improves insulin sensitivity and reduces the risk of type 2 diabetes.
